Annoucement: Release of Altium Vault and Personal Vault

The Altium Development team is pleased to announce the release of the Altium Vault Server and the Personal Vault.

Vaults offer reliable traceability and where-used information through the formal revisioning and life-cycle management of part information, sub-circuits and full designs. Repeatable formal release process ensures all design documents are suited for the chosen release.

All items in vaults represent reusable design content, from part models to entire sub-circuits. Because their history and lifecycle state are known a designer can reuse them with complete understanding of their track record.

Vaults provide access to live supply chain intelligence via online links to component suppliers. This helps reduce risk by informing the process of component selection during the design phase.

Finally, vaults establish mechanism to easily and securely share the right pieces of design data with those who need access to them.

The Altium Vault Server is ideal for businesses with teams who benefit from full control over tracking user access and sharing capabilities. Licenses need to be purchased to run and connect to the Altium Vault Server.

The Personal Vault is a complete electronic design data management system, aimed at helping individuals or small groups to gain control over, reuse and leverage their IP. It is available free of charge.

Both Altium Vault Server and Personal Vault are available here for download.

What is the difference between the Altium Vault Server and the now legacy Satellite Vault Server?

Altium Vault Server allows customers to configure and manage their own users without authentication on Altium Live. This means that you may add users to your vault server who do not require a connection to Altium Live to use the vault. This may include 3rd-party stakeholders to the data, such as purchasing departments, who do not use Altium Designer but still may require access and influence over engineering data (just one example).

The Satellite Vault Server is still able to be used but is now considered "legacy" having been replaced by the new Personal Vault. Users who already have the SVS up and running will be able to keep using it, however it will no longer be maintained. It will be possible to migrate data either to the PV or Altium Vault Server.

Announcement: Altium Designer 13.1

First update since the release of Altium Designer 2013. You can choose to update your existing installation or use the updated Installer (download from here).

With this update we have paid particular attention to stability and performance issues. See the release notes for a complete listing of all the fixes and enhancements. The Altium Installer has also been greatly improved to work with anti-virus software.

Accessing the Update

To update your Altium Designer installation, first ensure you are using a license with valid Subscription. Proceed to the Plug-in page (DXP >> Plug-ins and Updates) and select “Update All”. If you don’t see the update, use the “Refresh” link in the top right hand corner of the Plugins page. If you have issues with patching make sure you check your antivirus program.

Note: If you are using a Private Server license or Standalone license and you have renewed your Subscription since activation, you will be required to reactivate your license to obtain this and future updates.

For those who installed directly from DVD, you can access the updates by changing a setting in preferences: System >> Installation Manager, change the Remote Repository Location to http://installation.altium.com.

If you are wanting to install a new build containing this update, the Installer and Uninstaller can be downloaded from the Software page in AltiumLive - download the latest Installer/Uninstaller.
